Be Aware

Get Organized

Step 1 -Think about how you want to organize & group photos

Give some thought to how you want to group your photos and the order they should appear. The groupings will be the chapters in the video DVD. For example an Graduation DVD may include the following groups:

  • Group 1 – Title: “Early Years” – Photos of the graduate from birth to Kindergarten.
  • Group 2 – Title: “School Days” – Photos of early life in Elementary/Grammar school.
  • Group 3 – Title: “Family & Friends” – Photos of the graduate with family and friends.
  • Group 4 – Title: “High School Fun” – Sporting events, activities & Prom.
  • Group 5 – Title: “The Big Day” – Photos of the graduate in cap and gown, marching, accepting the diploma and the Diploma itself.

To get some ideas about organizing & grouping please see some of our “Keepsake Shows”

Step 2 -Gather all the photos for each group

There are a couple of ways to decide how many photos to use in each group. One ways is to count  the photos you want to use in a group and then select enough music to match. For example if you select 40 photos in a group then you will need approximately 5 minutes of music (1 minute of music for every 8 photos).

The other way is If you have a specific song in mind to use with a group, divide the number of seconds in the song by 8 and that will give an approximate number of photos to use. For example, if the song is 4 minutes long (240 seconds), then a good number of photos is 32 (or less).

You can use any combination of print and digital photos.

Step 3 – Organize the Photos within each group.

If working with prints, you can use a light pencil mark to write a number on the back of the photo or use a sticky note. If working with scanned or digital camera photos, you need to rename the file with numbers like 001.jpg, 002.jpg etc…in the order you want them displayed in your show.
